Having finished Game of Thrones I find myself with a seven kingdom sized hole in my viewing pleasure, which means, I’m in the market for a new TV show!
And lets face it, that isn’t going to be an easy fix, can anything stand up to the Iron Throne?
While I research what to binge on next, the Marvellous Mummy has been glued to the original series of the special forces reality show, SAS : Who dares wins.
The premise is simple, a group of civilian recruits are put through a special forces selection process by a team of former SAS & SBS operatives, lead by a bloke named Ant Middleton
At first look it has the appearance of an incredibly tough test of every human attribute, strength both physically and mentall, endurance, stamina & human spirit!
Yet as I watched clips of it, I couldn’t shake that nagging feeling of familiarity, despite the fact I have never been in the Armed Forces, in fact I don’t even go out for a run, let alone do so wearing a Bergen weighing 30Ib.
Then it hit me, it’s like parenting only not quite as tough, think about it
Have you ever pushed a baby in a buggy with a second child hanging off your leg while carting the baby bag, your rucksack & whatever you managed to scavenge on your Supermarket Sweep esque visit to Tesco?
From Birth until aged 5, give or take!
Any parent who has ever been subjected to a prolonged query of ‘but, why?’ by a toddler will walk this
And as for staying mentally strong, well that ship sailed years ago, but I have learnt to get by in-spite of my general state of gibberish mental mess....
It falls back to the old truth, many things in life require you to train, study or at least practice and all to pass a test. Yet almost any bloke with a lightsaber & two BB8’s hanging off it can reproduce
So with zero disrespect to the folks from Special Forces, who are some tough ass SOB’s, I want to see these SF wannabes tackle the ultimate challenge! I even worked out a title
Parenting : Daring doesn’t matter, you’re never gonna win!
