![]() The beer budget is going a lot further in the bar after the opening of the off sale section in our local discount chain store. It took me a few months to discover this new supplier, whose shelves are filled with the usual supermarket lager favourites, in addition to the familiar they seem to stock a decent selection of the Bulmers cider range. The five fruit Harvest, is, well fruity. I have yet to find a flavoured cider that I like for more than a pint or two, but initially this was surprisingly serious enough in its taste to have given me an, albeit, temporary alternative to my staple Magners.. I had drank five or six before I even looked at the back of the bottle. Yes it's lower ABV than my normal pint, coming in at 2.8%. and it will never pass the lips of a serious cider fan but it was refreshing on a unexpectedly sunny Easter Sunday. The Bulmers Cider Five Fruit Harvest is made with a blend of five late harvest fruits - Apple, Pear, Plum, Quince and Grape. (According to the website) and while I did enjoy it and would even tentatively recommend it, the sun would need to be blazing down and the thirst levels high. It was a tasty break from the norm, helped massively by its £1 a bottle price tag. Ultimately it's a bit alcopoppy and the taste combined with the low alcohol content will get tired quickly. It remains a reasonable alternative choice for those summer salad eating days when All thoughts turn to pouring yourself into the old banana hammock to laze by the foot deep paddling pool It's a two star General, maybe even two and a quarter
