"By signing up to be a Soberhero you are doing something amazing for people with cancer. All the money raised by those Going Sober this October will make sure that Macmillan can be there to help change lives, each and every day. It will mean that we can be there right from the moment of diagnosis, through their treatment and beyond. It will mean we can be there to help give them the energy and support to take back control of their life. So thank you for taking part in Go Sober, raising a glass (of water) and standing proudly beside people facing cancer" Admittedly this may seem like an odd topic for an Alcohol website. In truth the title alone makes me feel a little uneasy. The problem, for want of a better word, is "Going Sober in October" is gaining more momentum every year! You see, its not just about ditching the booze for 31 days, personally I would have gone for February.. As the blurb above reads, its all about cancer. A disease that has affected almost all of us and something sadly we could be made to face personally anytime. I think that's worth giving up the Liquor for a month, and to prove it I have signed up to the challenge. Even if I don't rise that much money as the old adage goes, its not the winning, its the taking part. Now, obviously there are health benefits to everyone taking part, even if you do have a cheat day. Interestingly this is allowed, at a cost. £15 donation buys you a Golden Ticket, which allows you to have a day off the abstinence and a day on the drink. We do promote drinking in moderation and always boozing responsibly.
