One Morning in Late November I opened the front door to a rather flushed looking Postal Worker, propping themselves up on the front step. Initally I feared that she was out of breath, having lugged my credit card bill up the street. Happily though the ashen face and perspiration was down to the weight of a case from Honest Brew! As she stumbled off, mumbling something about lazy git and Alcoholism, I carressed my box like a child and made my way carefully towards the fridge. The six beer sample pack from Honest Brew was an introductory offer and included an excellent range of craft beers. We have previously covered two of these offerings, Sunburnt Irish Red ale and Vermont Tea Party, on the site. Today though, we are drinking the Honest Brew labelled American Pale Ale. Over Christmas I managed to knock the LiquorJunky Beer Fridge up to what we technically refer to as, full whack. This resulted in the majority of our beers freezing, exploding and erupting. Interestingly though, the craft beers, we had on ice managed to survive. So in order to drown our sorrows and tick the Trynuary box for this week, the Honest Brew APA was perfectly situated for drinking. The company was conceived by two Strangers who got chatting in, where else, but a bar. With the initial idea born, Honest Brew was born after the addition of a 'tache sporting Beer genius, a Marketing Whizz and a guy who was clued up in the Tinterweb. More details can be found on the website they created www.Honestbrew.co.uk "Inspired by the low bitterness and juicy fruit character of modern IPAs we’ve loved drinking over the past 12 months, we set about creating a tribute to this ever-evolving style. After a long search we tracked down a dangerous amount of new world hops including beauties like Simcoe and Amarillo. Increasingly sought after Irish malt from the lush growing areas of Cork provided a rich and smooth base for the hops to shine and produced a surprising amount of fermentables."
So thats the Blurb from the Brewery. APA slams home at 6.2% ABV, which to be honest I didnt pick up on initially. The high ABV doesnt come across straight away and I found this Ale easy to drink. Its a light, cloudy, headless pour with clean citrus fruits and a crisp finish. To be honest, this isn't the best American Pale Ale to be served in our bar, but it certainly isn't unpleasent. Honest Brew have an amazing selection of craft beers available via their online store, If i bought everything I liked the look of, then the Postie would collapse trying to bring the credit card bill to the door. Check out the Howlers, looking forward to more stock becoming available
